Getting divorced can be tough. The dissolution of a marriage can be a lengthy and taxing process. Add children into the mix and it can get messy and emotional as well.

Take, for example, NBA star Chris Bosh's latest foray into family law. Residents of Illinois likely know Bosh, whose team just won the NBA championship, for his basketball exploits. But Bosh took little time off from winning the NBA championship before filing legal documents asking for primary physical custody of his young daughter.

The filing not only tries to strip Bosh's ex-girlfriend of custody, but also painted her as an unfit parent. According to sources, the filing alleges that Bosh's ex is actively sabotaging his relationship with his daughter. For example, the filing claims Bosh's ex won't let the couples' daughter travel with or even contact Bosh.

Despite attacking his ex's fitness as a parent, Bosh's filing stipulates that he will attempt to negotiate a visitation schedule that would allow his ex ample time with their daughter.

Bosh's ex took little time to denounce the allegations. And then she counterattacked, trying to hold public statements Bosh made it public to local basketball fans claiming he planned to live in his adopted city for the long-term. Those comments contradicted statements Bosh made to a court in his native state last year saying that he resided in that state. The latest filing promises to be the start, not the end, of fireworks between the couple.

Couples in Illinois facing the same difficult journey need not go through it alone. A person experienced can make the process smoother and less stressful by offering practical solutions to many of their biggest divorce issues. Even process such as arbitration and mediation can assist with child custody, visitation rights, alimony, child support and property division. Dissolving couples do not have to go through one of the most stressful events in life alone.
