Attorney Karen M. Lavin Receives 2015 Women of Distinction Award

Crystal Lake, IL (May 20, 2015) - Crystal Lake Family Law Attorney, Karen M. Lavin, of The Law Offices of KML Associates PC, was named a recipient of the 2015 Women of Distinction Award for her achievements in her career and as a community leader.

She and the 14 recipients were recently honored at the 2015 McHenry County Women of Distinction Luncheon on May 13, 2015 at the Crystal Lake Luncheon.

Lavin is noted for her pursuit of fairness in the law for all people, especially those under represented populations in McHenry County including same-sex couples for adoptions, pre-civil agreements and dissolution of marriage. She has provided pro-bono legal services to McHenry County non-profit organizations such as Friends in Service Here (FISH) of McHenry, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Home of the Sparrow, Wonder Lake Neighbor's Food Pantry, Rotary Club of McHenry and Prairie State Legal Services.

Lavin has served the legal community in McHenry County as the past president of the Family Law Section and the past Chairperson of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of McHenry County Bar Association. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of McHenry, the Sybaque Council of Girl Scouts, the Underground Railroad Museum in Union, Family Alliance in McHenry County and the Wonder Lake Neighbor's Food Pantry.

Lavin was born and raised in Wonder Lake, graduated from Marian Central High School and then graduated with high honors from the University of Wisconsin and graduated with honors from Chicago Kent College of Law. After starting her law career in Cook County as a prosecutor, she then moved back to McHenry County and began her family practice.

Lavin has more than 30 years of legal experience, and her practice areas include family law, divorce, property division, custody and support, same-sex couples, orders of protection, estate planning and probate.
